Neutral sides

Here is a description of what you can expect when you are playing on Random Maps using these Neutral sides. These are most of the armies you will find in the Neutral cities, not any of the ?Standard Sets' that the computer might be using.

A) Darkness and Light.

White player name: CRUSADERS

Neutral strenght: WEAK

Money: POOR

Abundant:

- Elf Cav, Dwarf inf, Catapults.

Common:

- Elf Archers, Unicorns, Trolls.

Capitol production:

- Irons, Unicorns, Slayer Kn.

Comments: In this map you can forfeit siege engine turn 1. Load up on EC/runners, peasants or goblins and expect to capture most +1 or +2 cities. Expand fast: your opponent can and will be doing the same. You can be seduced to use to use Unicorns in regs but EC is perfectly ok and much cheaper. Also good for dwarf inf in regs.

B) Dark Lords

White player name: LORD DRACONIS

Neutral strenght: REASONABLE

Money: AVERAGE

Abundant:

- Halflings, Gnolls, Ogres, Centaurs, Harpies.

Common:

- Gnoll Cav, Assassin.

Capitol production:

- Blue Dragons, Rock Elem, Irons, Slayer Kn.

Comments: This is the assassins map. You will get away with EC/peasants for most cities (though I recommend also a siege eng). But make sure your hero doesn't fall to an assassin city! You can try assassins or GC in regulars on this one. If you like archery in regs, try the halfings then.

C) Undead Legions

White player name: ELTHORN

Neutral strenght: STRONG

Money: RICH

Abundant:

- Undead Dragon, Mummies, Gnolls, Catapult.

Common:

- Wraiths, Harpies, Ghosts, Zombies. (Some Liches ocasionally)

Capitol production:

- Undead Beasts (3x), Undead Dragon.

Comments: Be careful. It's a rich map and you won't have money problems, but the cities will be very tough. Even EC/SE/peasants might not be enough for your hero set. Don't risk him - probe first if in doubt. The odds of killing a UD with

EC/7 peasants are not so great, but EC/SE/liche(wight)/peasants works quite ok on this one. If you like PPDC try Mummies in regs. It's a good one to play UD's in regs too.

D) Orc Tribes

White player name: PALE ONES

Neutral strenght: WEAK

Money: AVERAGE

Abundant:

- Medusae, Imps, Ghosts, Catapults.

Common:

- Scorpions, Trolls.

Capitol production:

- Nothing worthy.

Comments: The abundance of medusae is VERY annoying. Make sure you have a priest slot 2,3 or play with max sites, otherwise your hero might have to pick some points for move +3! As usual, if you can't afford to be paralysed, probe first. This is a good one for tying imps in regulars instead of goblins for scouting purposes.

E) Barbarians

White player name: EAGLE TRIBE

Neutral strenght: WEAK

Money: POOR (very!)

Abundant:

- Wights, Harpies, Gnolls.

Common:

- Wraiths, Trolls, Zombies.

Capitol production:

- Silver Dragons, Unicorns.

Comments: There are couple of high fear neutral cities, but EC/peasants should be enough to ensure rapid expansion. Money quests on this one are as good as set aside.

F) Knightly Orders

White player name: WHITE KNIGHTS

Neutral strenght: STRONG

Money: RICH (very)

Abundant:

- Slayer Kn, Archons, Griffons, Ghosts, Catapults.

Common:

- Red Dragon, Unicorns.

Capitol production:

- Gold Dragons (x2), Irons (x2), Silver Dragon.

Comments: By far the richest map but also the toughest. The reds can be a real nuisance but are a must in regulars in this one. There is also a point in trying unicorns in regulars here. As well as irons or golds. Another one to start with EC/SE/Liche/peasants stacks (or to carefully probe otherwise). You'll have to pick your targets carefully because you won't have many stacks, even in a 3000 start.

G) Colleges of Magic

White player name: SILVER MAGES

Neutral strenght: WEAK

Money: AVERAGE

Abundant:

- Giants, Elf Cav, Wights, Dwarf inf, Catapults.

Common:

- Ogres, Imps.

Capitol production:

- Elephants, Slayer Kn.

Comments: good for trying giants or wights in regs. Nothing special about this one.

H) Standard

White player name: LORD PALADIN

Neutral strenght: REASONABLE

Money: POOR

Abundant:

- Giants, Elf Cav, Wights, Ogres, Dwarf Inf, Heavy Cav.

Common:

- Elf Archers, Catapults.

Capitol Producion:

- Elephants, Slayer Kn, Wraiths.

Comments: You might get away with EC/peasants at start, but the giants are known to have single-handedly slain quite a few of heroes! Play safe with SE or wight. There are a couple of decent units for free production. Maybe this is one to give it a try.
